Hello everyone

I am very excited to offer my students the new ‘Open Practice’ session on Saturdays 11am-12pm. *for now - if it gets popular, I can add a 10-11am session. On Saturday 17 May only, there will be a 10-11am session as well as 11am-12pm. Thanks Marilla for the idea!

I will still be able to do occasional one-off workshops - I will just cancel the Open Practice session as required, and in advance. For now, I am just going to focus on establishing the Open Practice sessions first.

Cost

The Open Practice session will be $20 for 1 hour, per person. The Open Practice session will be capped at 6 people max. You will be free to practise whatever you like, ballet wise. 

Requirements

The only requirements will be that any music be played via personal headphones so as not to disturb the other students. And you will need to exercise some consideration and discretion when co-practising with the other students. For eg. Sometimes it may not be appropriate for you to practise grand allegro depending on what the other students are doing. Sometimes it may be appropriate, but you may just need to flag with the other students that you want to do big jumps across the room. Stuff like that.

Also no food in the studio or street shoes on the tarkett.

I will generally not be there during the session. I may attend at the start of the session to put up a sign with the names of who has booked in and set up the air conditioner.

Who can book?

For this reason, the Open Practice sessions will only be available to current or past Kwan Studio students, or people that I know personally. This is so that I know everyone who is using my studio while I am not there, and so that I can trust that you will be able to co-practise nicely with the other students.

For the sake of transparency, I just want to let you know how I have calculated the fee:

- This is not a profit-making exercise for me. This was requested by my students and I think it is an amazing idea, for people to be able to practice ballet in a studio if they don’t have space at home.
- I do however need to cover the studio hire fee. I pay Dance Factory for my studio per hour, I am not the tenant of the building. I have to pay the rent a month in advance to lock in my hire times.
- When you pay $20 on my website, I do not receive $20, as Stripe takes out credit card fees. However, paying via my website is the most efficient way for me to process transactions.
- I have priced it at $20 so that I can still run the Open Practice session if only 1 or zero people book in (I will lose money if less than 4 people book in). But this will be countered by the fact that some weeks hopefully 6 people will book in.
- I will trial this for May, commencing 17* May to see if it is viable to run!

Please note that payments are strictly non-refundable and non-creditable and non-exchangeable. If you book in for x date and can no longer make it, you will not be able to swap to another date.
