Edward Kwan was founded in 2013 by me (Zara Lim). Edward Kwan is named after my grandfather who, at the age of 93, still works full-time as a master tailor in Singapore and made suits for Bill Clinton and George Bush Senior. My grandfather took over the business, Wai Cheong Tailors, from my great-grandfather when he was a teenager, after my great-grandfather was killed during World War II. All products are handmade and hand painted in Melbourne, Australia by myself. As of 2023, I am no longer taking orders.
I have a background in ballet and law but am self-taught at painting, having trained full-time at the Australian Ballet School for four years before changing career paths to law. As a lawyer, I practised in intellectual property and commercial litigation. I also served as associate to a Supreme Court Judge.
In July 2020 during Stage 4 lockdown, I started Gracie Kwan Candy Boxes. I wanted to come up with a second COVID-proof business, given that Edward Kwan’s offerings as a wedding business, were affected by COVID - and because who doesn’t love candy?! As of 2023, I am no longer taking orders.
And in 2021, I returned to my first love and launched adult ballet classes!
